Horton hatches an Egg- Abbas’ s version

If you have read the story of the elephant that sat on a tree to hatch an egg through terrible storms and fiercely cold winters, bearing the burden of critisism and tut tuting from other animals, you’ll know that I’m referring to Horton the elephant, who sat on a tree and hatched an egg for Maisey the lazy bird.

Abbas and I have been reading this story for a few weeks now but I sometimes forget that he is only two years old; I forget that his understanding of stories read to him is very basic.

So when I asked him to tell me the story and we came up to this page

And I asked him what was happening, these were his purely logical thoughts:

Elephant sad because it all wet and  Elephant need coat and umbrella.

There you go, that’s what was really happening, and silly me, I’ve been thinking that Horton was sad because he was having to sit on that tree to hatch that egg through the rain and cold!!

But all that he was sad about was not having a coat and brolly!

Simple as that!!!
