Papa’s whale song

Abbas, conversations with you are rewarding – be it for no reason other than granting me an excuse for a chuckle.

We’ve just returned from holiday, and your papa and I are suffering the consequences of Kassim’s and your jetlag. Kassim’s jetlag is essentially just intense hunger at 1am, while I reckon, your’s gives us brilliant conversations.

At 11pm last night Papa and I were reciting the Quran – Papa was reading out loud. I came to check on you. Wide awake, and looking very thoughful, you asked me, “Mama, is Papa reading well?”

“Yes, he is Abbas,” I replied, “What do you think?”

“Hm, I think I read better. My tune is much nicer. Papa sounds like a whale. You know, like when a hump back whale sings a whale song?”

A whale song!

Papa wasn’t impressed. But he was certainly inspired. He has since started listening to a Quran recitation during his hour long drives up to work every day to improve his reading tune!
